Participant Bios

Marian Dörk is a PhD student of Computer Science in the Interactions Lab at the University of Calgary. In his research he explores the potential of visualization for making sense of growing information spaces.

Maria Bakardjieva is Professor at the Faculty of Communication and Culture, University of Calgary, Canada. She is the author of Internet Society: The Internet in Everyday Life (2005, Sage). Her research has examined Internet use practices across different social and cultural contexts with a focus on the ways in which users understand and actively appropriate the new medium. She has also published on the topics of online community, e-learning and research ethics. Her current projects look at the interactions between traditional and new media with a view to identifying opportunities for citizen participation in the public sphere.

Jonathan Sillito, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Calgary. His research is concerned with the process of creating and managing source code changes. He has also created Saturate, a web application for qualitative analysis. Jonathan has a PhD from the University of British Columbia and an MSc and BSc from the University of Alberta.
